Fresh off the excitement of this year’s truly
mesmerizing Ryder Cup, we are quite pleased to offer a historic collection of
memorabilia from the 1999 Ryder Cup. The ’99 Ryder Cup at Brookline will go
down, to Americans at least, as perhaps the most dramatic and famous Ryder Cup
in history. Facing what seemed like insurmountable odds, Captain Ben Crenshaw
led the US squad to an epic comeback that will forever be etched into Ryder Cup
lore. We are currently offering the finest collection of 1999 Ryder Cup memorabilia
to ever to reach the auction block. This memorabilia comes from a past
President of the PGA who was a key figure at the 1999 Ryder Cup.
1999 Ryder Cup Trophy from The
Country Club at Brookline
Everyone has their collecting goals, and
there’s nothing quite like the search for that elusive item to fill a void in
your collection. To be honest, Bob and I are the same way when it comes to
finding great items for our auctions. One such piece that we’ve always wanted to
offer was a Ryder Cup trophy from, in our opinion, the greatest Ryder Cup of
them all – the 1999 Ryder Cup.
We knew that only 20 Ryder Cups trophies were
produced in 1999, so the task wouldn’t be easy. We were pretty sure that Tiger
wasn’t going to give us his. And, well, that could be said about just about
everyone. But 4 years ago, we had a breakthrough. A past PGA President
who was part of the 1999 Ryder Cup Official Party replied to our inquiry with a
“maybe one day.” Well, around here maybe means “eventually yes,” so we just
kept at it. And here it is! We finalized the deal for this Ryder Cup trophy and
the other 1999 Ryder Cup items just 4 days before our auction launched. And we couldn’t
be more thrilled…
Offered here is an official 1999 Ryder Cup
trophy from the Country Club at Brookline. We believe that 20 trophies were
produced for the 1999 Ryder Cup, and this is the first one to reach the auction
block. If we had to guess, it will be many years before we see another. The
trophy stands 12” tall and measures 6” from handle to handle. The band is engraved with facsimile signatures of the entire 1999 American Team. Note: We photoshopped
out the name of this trophy’s recipient from the photos in order to assist in
keeping his name out of the public eye.
