This is a high grade studio portrait carte de visite of Old & Young Tom Morris. This image, likely taken after Young Tom's 3rd straight Open Championship victory in 1870, is among the most iconic in golf history. You could say that it is the 19th century version of the 20th century Ben Hogan 1 iron photo.

This CdV contains an excellent photograph of Old & Young Tom. You can even see the texture in their clothing, not to mention the individual hairs of Old Tom's beard. Though 19th century photographs are usually impossible to date, this one provides us some great information. The photography studio Lawrie & Mitchell in Edinburgh moved a few times, and are believed to have moved to their 25 North Bridge address in approximately 1879 and stayed there for a few years in the 1880s.

Standard carte de visite size of 2 1/2" x 4".
