This 1923 Western Amateur sterling silver trophy was won by Jess Sweetser for Low Gross (Medalist) score in the 1923 Western Golf Association Amateur Championship. In the qualifying round of 32, Jess Sweetser shot a 68-75 (143) defeating Leonard Martin 5&4. His two round total of 143 set a new course record and was the low gross of all 32 qualifying round players, earning him Medalist honors. He won the Medalist gold medal and this sterling trophy for Low Gross Score. Chick Evans would go on to win the 1923 Western Amateur.  

Never engraved by Sweetser, but was obtained by golf antiquities dealer Kevin Mcgrath in the 1990s alongside other items from Jess Sweetser's Estate. This finely crafted trophy was made by C. D. Peacock Gold & Silversmiths of Chicago. The sterling silver trophy stands 15 inches tall and weighs 30.7 troy ounces. Starting bid is melt value of silver
